| This is the sister album to Nefelodhis by Maurizio bianchi an Sparkle In Grey. Erimos is the Greek word for desert, and also the word from which 'hermit' is derived. Bianchi and cohorts Matteo Uggeri and Luca Bergero are conscious of this-what they have produced here isn't a mere sandy soundscape, addied with cliched Saharan evocations but something which could function as an aid to deep contemplation. Erimos comprises a single, 41 minute piece, achieved by a variety of tools and methods, including "concrete sounds, DVD player, pre-treatments, field recordings and turntable". All these elements are griuond down and distilled to create a non-literal representation of desert condition, its shape determined by the motions of invisible forces, with distant rattles, episodic silences and faint, illusory intimations of approaching human beings. Quite beautiful, and the sort of album that could only be made these times. |
